I then replaced the battery (the orginial was over fours years old) and lo-and-behold, when I turned the key, the radio was restored! Don't ask me how or why as I was expecting only to have the CD player working.
I also didn't want to go through the hassle of taking it to the dealer.
I thought it might need a radio code since the battery was recently drained (left the interior lights on all night). Well, finally it got stuck in the CD only mode for the past several months. Honda even replaced the radio unit about two years ago. Unless we turned off the radio before the engine was shut off, it would act strangely (sometimes the CD player would be the only thing that worked and we couldn't switch back to the radio). I had a CD changer/player installed several years ago ( I have an 02 LX) and it occasionally got cranky.
I had a strange thing happen with my radio just this month.
